For those of you who sell your carvings at sales or consignment ect. How are you attaching price tags to them? I cannot get stickers to stick..they keep falling off. And do you put a calling card with your carvings? And with this card do you put the name of that carving with the price on it ? If so..how do you keep that card with that carving while its sitting on the table or shelf? |

Push pins !!!!!! My little Bride made me hundreds of price tags from her scrapebooking punch and with the hole center top, we attached /tied a piece of Jute and a push ping through the Jute in to the back side of the carveing allowing the tag to hang down below the carving. When it sells, they take the pushpin and tag off and save thm for my return resupply trips. All kinds of different headed pushpins. I usually use the flat headed kind so the carving would not be away from the wall causeing it to hang differently. Some people have used Ink and write the cost on the back of the carving but, I foresee some problems with that. I like the tags, Jute and pins.. Forgot to add, the little bride antiqued the tags and the jute was a tan to brownish color and she thought the set up went great with our carvings. Hope this helps

Duct Tape ! If you can't fix it with duct tape and a hammer it can't be fixed ! Jester Duct tape on the bottom and write on the duct tape. Seriously duct tape will hold where nothing else will . Ash |

hummm i would have thought a tag on a string would do..simply printed on some card stock , or a business card tyed on to a string. just tye it on, you wouldnt have a hole or that tape goo to deal with after it set in the sun all day

Ash, Duct tape does not look very nice even on the bottom. It looks like the carver did not or does not care about his or her carvings. Was the very first item I used in selling carvings and a lady said to get rid of the tape and go more professional on displaying. Thomp. The push pin is tiny and when attached to the carving on the back or bottom, It does leave a hole but a tiny one. Again, just tieing it looks a little unprofessional when displaying them to sell. I have started using my business cards as a tag. The front with infomation about the business and the back of the card, information about the carving and the price. A lot goes in to presentation. Looks do count on your carving displayed. Been there and done those ways. I will have to look for some picture of several ways I display depending on location and post them. Again, sometimes the way you display your carving can either make it or not. Don't ask me How I know.

Ash lives in West Virginia. They use duct tape for everything. Why its even known as chrome in those parts. Marci, We print most of ours with printshop on bussiness card stock. We either hang them with jute or fold them like a little card with the price on the inside. On my Santas I want my customers to pick them up. I want them to feel the wood and the facets of the carving. So I place a card under each santa. Goody

If you really want a tag to stick to the carving, print a bunch of small ones with your name or email or phone number, and just enough space to write in the price by hand, then glue it to the bottom with plain old rubber cement. It's easy to get off when they get home, yet won't fall off easily when you have to pack and unpack it a couple of times. And as Goody says, put it on the bottom, so they have to pick up the carving and hold it... Claude |

We make our own tags and attach with ribbon on the tree ornaments as shown. On the larger carvings we stick the tag on with scotch tape rolled around our finger. It holds good but is easy for the customer to remove.

Here's is the first rule of selling carvings, at least from my experience. GET IT IN THEIR HANDS! Placing a price tag where the viewer can see it prevents this. I put my prices on a card placed underneath each carving. When someone asks "How Much?" I pick the piece up and try to hand it to them or at least hold it in front of them before I give them the price. By holding the piece, they momentarily own it and realize that they can just as easily take it home with them. The same principle is in action when you buy a new car. That salesman wants to get you in the drivers seat, wants you to test drive the vehicle because he knows that each step you take is one step closer to your signing on the dotted line.

Good suggestions, I don't have anything to add, just had to say what a laugh I got from Goody's remark "Why it's even known as chrome in those parts!" That is just too funny.....and too true, at least here in Pennsylvania! I was repairing my sweeper the other day.....yes, duct tape...in fact, duct tape and a piece of wood I bandsawed out. The bottom 'hook' broke off where you wrap the cord around. I tried everything else to fix it, then I thought, "Hey, I'll cut a new one out of a piece of scrap basswood and duct tape it in place"!......worked like a charm!! And it SO impressed my six year old Grandson. In fact, he thought duct tape was really neat stuff. He used it to tape pieces of paper together to make a robot! Creative kid....at least duct tape wise! Deborah
