Default Preacher

This is a cane I carved around 1994. I found the piece of wood while on a hike and thought it had possibilities for a cane!

Hi B, isn't it interesting how various shapes in nature can suggest objects. Also how each person see a different subject, generally no two the same.
Did you stain your cane wood or is that the natural color of the wood.
I think sometimes found wood is the best kind and it's free.

Hi K:
I stained it!
I agree, some of that found wood really works wonders.
I look forward to spring when I can get out there in the countryside and pick up some of that good stuff. Meanwhile it's Heinecke for me!!!
I did get a couple of Basswood chunks today from our neighbor who's a master carver!! Have to stare at it for a while to see what it says to me! LOL

Hey Kenny
and Cannuck:
Glad you like the Preacher man.
Ken, I'm still staring at those Basswood pieces. LOL
What's a good way to vacuum up wood dust when using a small Dremel size hand power tool?
Any suggestions? It would be great if there was something to hold next to the tool while using it??????????????

I like your preacher.

If you are carving for a short time you can just put the hose to a vacumn next to the carving. But the noise will drive you batty. Check out the threads for "dust collectors" and that will give you some ideas.

You asked about vacuuming up, I use a little Dirt Devil (red one) it has a hose on it, you can also use. If I power carve I have a small box fan with L shaped brackets on it then I slide a furnace filter in on the intake side draws in the dust to the filter. Works fairly well. Nice job on the preacher! Hope I've helped. Happy New Year to ALL! BRIAN D.
