Default Power carving dust collection system

Hey all;
I,m not new to the board,but I,ve been out of carving for a few years.The carvings I used to do,I did outside,using hand tools.I,m now into power carving.The winters in Manitoba get very extreme at times,so carving outside or in my shop is out of the question.My question is this,Does anyone have plans for a carving dust collection system that they would be willing to share with me??I,ve got a small space in the basement that I,ll be using for carving,but the loml would prefer not to have dust throughout the house{for whatever reason.lol}.
Ive been checking out some of the carvings you all have done,and all I can say is,I,ve got to get back in the swing of things.You are all good.
Thanks
Mark

Mark,
You might try www.fishcarver.com and click on DIY Gadgets. Ed has plans for building your own dustcollector. Looks like a pretty good idea. I am sure there are others but I happened to know about Ed's plans. Good Luck

I tried a bunch of homemade stuff, and ended up getting a Razortip dust collector, works super. I don't regret it.

Like Bob, I tried some homemade stuff first, then finally bought a dust collector that only had one fan...thought it would do the job and it was $50 cheaper than the two-fan model. It works, but not as well as I need. Shoulda just spent the extra to get the extra power to start with. So, my advice is to get the biggest one (fan and power) you can; it will remove more wood dust than the smaller ones.

I have both worlds, Home made and a store Bought dust collestor. The store bought is a bench top two fan Grizzly and works well. I think around $139 a couple years ago. I don't do a lot of power carvingbut thought it would be best to have one anyway.
