| | Portable carving desk Â* Â* A while back there was a discussion going about where we carved and I mentioned having a portable carving desk. Â*It fits across the arms of my recliner so I can use it in the evenings and weekends when spending time watching television with the hubby. Â*Other times it sets on a table in my sewing room, it's always ready to use either places.
Â* Â* I snapped a picture of it and put it on my www.photo.epson.com site, if anyone is thinking something like that might work for them and wants to check it out. Â*Just type callsr@csonline.net in the Visit Friends Albums box.
Â* Â* Oh yeah, the dark brown vinyl hanging down is a recent addition, I attached it to the bottom of the desk and let it drap over me when carving, it catches a bunch of the woodchips and I can just 'flip' them back up on the carving desk. Â*Callynne |

| | | Re: Portable carving desk I have GOT to be the messiest carver known to man. I would NEVER think of carving in the living room while watching TV or whatever. I've seen others talk of using aprons, portable desks, etc.....but I don't see how one carves so very carefully to keep all the chips on the apron or desk!?! I have chips 'flying' when I carve - whether using power tools or hand tools, or even my knives. LOL...what am I doing wrong?

| | | Re: Portable carving desk Teri,
I think I could give you some strong competition for the messiest carver title . I thought the reason why people put doors on their carving studios was to keep the chips in! As far as the chips going everywhere, the trick is to learn to aim them. That way you can enter a spit and whittle competition (timed event) and aim them at the other contestants. Remember, Chips Happen!

| | | Re: Portable carving desk I use a sheet on the floor and keep the dustbuster and shop vac close. Still get in trouble for chips in the carpet.

| | | Re: Portable carving desk Okay, good...LOL...so I'm not the only messy carver. I definitely keep the door to my workshop closed, and try like the dickens to keep the chips in this room...but it never fails that I'll track some through the house anyway...not to mention having shavings sticking to my clothes.
