Default Poplar Root Wood Spirit

I thought I would share a couple of these latest pieces of poplar I found in a nearby creek. I mounted one on a piece of mountain stone. The other one that is not mounted is about 3ft tall. I don't know whether to cut it down or mount it as is. If anyone has any input on moutning the sleepy eyed spirit it would be very much appreciated.

They remind me of a Senior Spirit with his false teeth missing. I like them, they're cute, Bill

WoodTrapper, Just great! May I ask, did you stain them? The popular that I have cut has always been quite white in color. But I have only worked with branches, never with the root system. The two color effect is fantastic.

Susan, you are correct about the stain. The sleepy fellow is stained w/cedar stain & the toothless one is done in puritan pine.I stained them first, let it set for a bit and rubbed it off hoping to lock in all the lines.I sealed it w/deft satin finish.I am weak in the finishing dept. so it is purely an experiment. I just wanted to say you all really made my morning with your comments. It is going to be a great day. Thanks everyone. Davy.

Hi there,I think they are great, very characterful and quirky. The guy standing on the stone looks like his hair is in a very high wind, great movement!
