Hi Gary, I've been making my own knives for years and continue to make them even though I am no longer able to use them to carve. Now, I give most of them away. Good luck with yours. I'll be looking forward to seeing them. Happy New Year to you.

Gary,

I'm a happily non-recovering knife maker (addict). I got started a few years ago and have been steadily tinkering ever since. Thanks to many on this message board who have shared their experiences (like my friend RonT above and many others) I've made some very nice tools that now get far more use than any store-bought knives I own.

L.P.

I make my own, because I couldn't find what i wanted commercially- full tang, very hard steel. I have a couple knives by others, one purchased folder, but the ones I make are my goto knives.

I have been making knives for a few years now . As inadv said with help from fellow forum members. I can get the blade and handle shapes I need. I use some commercial blades but to date, my go to is a file knife made with advice from Buffalo Bif. Just recently got into softening and tempering. Great fun.

Thanks everyone for answering this post.I have in the past made some fishing knives but just this past year made a couple carving knives,I will try and take some picutres of them today and put them on the site. I have made the blades out of old razors from Ger. or UK seems to have better steel in them also I have been flat grinding them seems to keep a better edge and longer by no means a pro but like the feel when you make it to your own hand.Well until I do get a pic I will sign off.

I too make the majority of my own carving knives. However, I do have & use the FlexCut Whittlin Jack (after some modification around the nail nick).

I make my own knives although I buy the blades from Deepwood Venture, I find his blades super heavy duty and super sharp.
