I'm a newby and have only done a few carvings, but I'm loving it. I've purchased a set of Flexcut carving knives and like them, but I'm also interested in getting a pocket whittler for convenience. I'm looking at this one: POCKET WHITTLER-Wood Carvers Supply I'm wondering what you experienced guys think about it and if anyone out there has used it. Thanks so much, Donny |

I agree that the Mastercarver pocket whittler is uncomfortable to use becausr it is thin & sharp edged but I liked the blade. I also couldn't stand the thought of wasting $60.00 so modified it. (see pics). I carved some cherry wood scales & releived them so the sides of the whittler fit snugly & epoxied them on. I have used it a lot with no problems - blade opens easily & lock release is smooth. Also very comfortable to carve with now. Keith |

Great job Keith! If the Carvin' Jack wasn't already so thick that would be a perfect solution for it.

Does that mean that you intend to carry the knife in your pocket, so that you can carve when you're away from your shop? |
