Default Pocket Whittler

I'm a newby and have only done a few carvings, but I'm loving it. I've purchased a set of Flexcut carving knives and like them, but I'm also interested in getting a pocket whittler for convenience. I'm looking at this one: POCKET WHITTLER-Wood Carvers Supply

I'm wondering what you experienced guys think about it and if anyone out there has used it.

Thanks so much,
Donny

I agree that the Mastercarver pocket whittler is uncomfortable to use becausr it is thin & sharp edged but I liked the blade. I also couldn't stand the thought of wasting $60.00 so modified it. (see pics). I carved some cherry wood scales & releived them so the sides of the whittler fit snugly & epoxied them on. I have used it a lot with no problems - blade opens easily & lock release is smooth. Also very comfortable to carve with now.

Keith, that is awesome. I thought of doing the same kind of thing but never acted on it. But you have inspired me! I like what you did and I agree it's a good enough blade to be worth the effort. I have been using mine at the paint station for touching up but new scales would really put some life into that knife.

Thanks for posting pics!

Great job Keith! If the Carvin' Jack wasn't already so thick that would be a perfect solution for it.

...well you said for 'convenience'.

Does that mean that you intend to carry the knife in your pocket, so that you can carve when you're away from your shop?

Yeah, that's the idea. Probably carry it in a belt sheath tho...

Thanks everyone for your input!
