Default Plastic tubing

I noticed in another post that a lot of the gang (including myself) have used plastic tubing to protect their knife blades and gouges.
I found that the tubing can also make a good stropping device for the inside of gouges. I fit the tubing over a dowel of the appropriate size to stiffen(?) it, rub a little compound on and go to work. If you leave the dowel out, the natural shape of the tube works well on bent gouges. The tubing has a 'grab' that helps to get rid if the dreaded wire edge, as well as the ability to conform to the configuration of the gouge.
Give it a try, works for me!...Reg

Default Thanks Badaid for the info.Re: Plastic tubing

Now that is a great idea. Never thought of using tubing for stropping. I have several different sizes of tubing left over and some different sizes of dowells.,
Now something for the V tools.
Thanks Badaid for the info.

Thanks Bandaid,
It looks like its time for me to make a trip to the hardware store. I was wondering how I was gonna strop the inside of those little tiny gouges. I haven't seen a slipstone that small,
and I have 12 Enlow Palm chisels that need some protection.

Glad to help guys...if you have trouble making stropping compound stick to the tubing, (some tubing seems to be a little slicker than others) try wrapping a piece of #2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper over the surface.
