| | Picture trails pics I just created a walking stick/cane album in picture trails...seemed there was enough to them to justify, I put my latest eagle stick in there...its the last picture...also put my greenman cane segment in 'wood spirits' in anyone is interested. My computer has been so screwed up the past week, this is the first time in months I have been able to post in pic trails, because it usually takes me to my site instead of carvers-r-us? |

| | Re: Picture trails pics NIce cane head. What did you use to attacj=h the eagle head to the cane. I was wonder as I use doublethreaded end bolts. The may have a name for them and use epoxy also. hinking when I carve my Brother-in-laws Mallard d Drake headed cane I will put a spacer or two with different colored plastic. Did you burn the western theme or carve. Nice! |

| | Re: Picture trails pics BTW, thanks for the super glue tip. It did strengthen the rose branch for the top three leaves. My little bride was happy for the tip as it got her rose finished quicker. |

| | Re: Picture trails pics really good looking hicking stick, did you have a pattern for the eagle or is it just out of your head.
kenny-
what you could try for attaching toppers is 1/4 threaded rod
and epoxy glue and put about 2'' of rod into both pieces.for spacers you could use different or contrasting wood cut with a hole cutter the dia. you want, and you could glue several thin pieces(1/2'') together remember to make the rod longer to compensate for spacer |

| | | Re: Picture trails pics You can also use those double ended, woodscrew threaded hangar bolts from most hardware stores. They come in sizes from 1/4' dia to 3/8'. Pre drill both pieces, thread the hangar bolts in once, remove them, coat them with epoxy (wipe with mineral spirts first to remove any oil coating from the mfg), coat both ends of the stick and topper with epoxy and re-assemble. that should hold till the next millenium!

| | Re: Picture trails pics the eagle is a roughout from beaverdamdecoys.....the designs are both burned and carved...as for attaching, this one was already attached, but jamesfa and al are both right on the attaching! thanks for looking! The greenman like I said was for a round robin cane segment swap, lots of fun, check into it! |

| | Re: Picture trails pics Great looking stick. I am just finishing up my second attempt at stick carving. I really enjoy this end of carving. Hope mine turns out as nice as yours. My first one was a quickie. I took an oak stick and mounted a brass ball as the topper and a brass ferrell to the bottom. Looks good but lacks the carving. The one I am working on now is a hiking stick with a topper of an old world santa head. Thanks for the tips on attaching. We need a stick thread...I have a million questions :-/
