How can I put a picture on the Picture Trails site? Got a catalpa wood spirit I'd like to show. Thanks in advance.

Â* Â* Hi Butch, I'll give this a try. Â*Go to www.picturetrail.com on the left side of the page select member log in. Â*The member name is carvers-R-us and the password is carve. Â*That should open up the albums page and looking again on the left side of the page should be the 'upload pics' selection. Â*Just follow the directions and you should be able to do it. Â*Good luck, looking forward to seeing your pictures there! Â*Callynne

Nice woodspirit Butch I really like the wood I have never heard of Catalpa obviously from the south. Is it a hardwood or a soft wood and how does it carve. For my own information how big does a Calalpa tree grow or is it a tree? At any rate I love the woodspirit.

Colin,
Thank you much. Catalpa is a hardwood. About the same hardness as sassafras or red cedar. ( if that helps any don't know if you have those woods up there. ) Tends to splinter if your not real careful ( still splinters if you're careful ). Kind of reminds me of butternut except the wood around here is harder.
Catalpa is a pretty big around tree. My friend has one on the ground that is about 38 to 40 ins. across. They don't get very tall. Big trunk and lots of limbs. People around Missouri call them cigar trees cause they grow a pod that is long, skinny and green.

Butch your wood spirit looks great! I always wondered what catalpa wood looked like. I know it grows here (Indiana) but I have never seen the wood available. I'll have to keep my eyes open for some.
Thanks for sharing the photo!
