Default Picture Frames

Hello there. Seeing as how I recently joined this forum, I have been rooting around and found some work I did in the past. These picture frames were carved almost 20 years ago. I carved them out of red cedar with my pocket knife (I didn't have carving tools at the time).

The design is my own. One day I will put glass in them and special pictures. Still not sure about the finish.

Beautiful frames! I see only one negative. How in the world will you find something to go in there? It will take a very unusual picture to not be overpowered by the frame. Good work.

Wonderful frame! The idea and the work are inspiring. That would make a great frame for a family portrait done in sepia, or hand tinted oil color. (does anyone do that any more?)

Gorgeous, really unusual. And to go in it? Maybe just a smooth piece of beautifully figured wood??? Call me a modernist, but hey...

With frames that wonderful, I would consider just having a mirrors cut to fit. Beautiful work....20 years ago huh? Have they been hanging on the wall empty?

Thank you for the kind words. These were originally carved to sport the baby pictures of my 2 sons and carved just after they were born. After the divorce I never had the heart to finish them. They have been in one box or another all this time. What is surprising is that they are still in one piece, although, I did have to scrape some white paint off the odd spot, flicked there from some long-gone-by wall painting expedition.

They are designed to fit a standard 8" x 10" piece of glass.

Thor, I really like the idea of using mirrors. I recently took up water color painting again and have considered mounting some of those.

Thanks for the interest, everyone.

Christopher...Very nice job, love your design movement, your eyes travel completely arround the whole frame. Great piece of work, thanks for sharing, it will be an inspirational piece for sure. Bill
