Default Photos of new piece

I just finished a new piece that I was really proud of. Its a bigger than life size indian face. (12" head instead of normal 9") Pretty cedar wood. I take a photo for my records and it looks like this. And I could take a dozen pixs and they would still look like this. I swear this piece is better looking than this photo shows. What is the secret to getting a representable picture?

Sometimes it seems to work and others not. Is it the type of piece or is it just luck, or does the picture show how really good it is?

Hi There, from what I can see it looks pretty good. I would suggest you don't lay it on the ground and definitely not in direct sun. Try to set it on something prefferably in the shade and take a close up (as close as you can) and try that. Hope this helps

That is a very interesting carving. The deformation in the wood only amplifies it's interest, at least to me. As for photographing, Cliff is right and it's best to take a photo from a slight angle so you can see some of the profile of the piece.

Very nice. The colors of the wood are great as well. What the carvers here taught me is to try and go with a solid background. I'm still a poor photographer, but it does help bring out the carving which sometimes blends with the background.

A very neat carving you did and yes cedar is beautifull. When I take picts of my carvings, always like this cedar which is darker wood, take a pict of it on a lighter background plus prop it up and shoot different angles of your carving that will show the depth. Plus dont have anything in the background that will destract from your carving. Theses are just my thoughts,Im not telling you how to take your picts but the above works for me. I like this Native American, you did a great job! Forrest

Hi There, well you know images never show really true color and I don't think the digital camera shows depth as well as 35mm camera's. I do use my digital camera a lot, but if I were send images to a show I would send 35mm slides. Sorry got off the track a bit.....I think your carving is really nice and the wood is beautiful. It's fits your Indian theme very well. Good Job!
