the drill press is a very versital tool/machine! before I had a lathe I had concocted a stand for my drill press that let me lay it horizontal that worked but was NOT convienent. still nothing else has the max use as a drill press! That pen with the Tulip is fantastic! Fabulous! and an absolute indicator you your ability. Never let it get away!! I have done in excess of 300 and seen many many hand made ones but that has to be about tops!

Thanks Dave! I have another in mind when I get back to the spinny work! Now that carving has piqued my interest I'll have to see if I can incorporate that into a pen too!

pretty cool to say the least! not with in my ability! as for CedarShavings post, big lathe, little lathe Don't matter! I think I may have turned my first few on my ShopSmith and then 300+ on my Record brand lathe that I can turn 46" in lenth on. if you have not seen one look at www.woodturnerscatalog.com on that site you can ask for the real one or just look at it on line. ofcourse if you are still working maybe you can take it to work if you have the actual catalog. be prepared to be hooked if you have not had it! Of course in these KITS, the wood is your problem and as to what/how you shape/finish the wood is too.
