Default Patterns

Has anyone used the patterns from the book by Mary Duke Guldan
using 3/4 " thick sections glued together?
What are your thoughts?
Since we have moved to a Senior Citizens complex I have no room for
the tools I had. Being without a band saw I am stuck with a jigsaw or
a coping saw so cutting out is much easier using 3/4" stock than a
block.
Any comments?

Squint....

I've never used one of her patterns but I do a lot of carving in empress wood and I laminate the 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 sections together all the time using Titebond. As long as you line the wood grain up in all sections carving it is not much different than carving a solid block.

That was one of my first books years back. I too made the mountain lion using a coping saw,3\4 inch pine, and glue. It turned out great, and I gave it away afew years ago.I was just looking at the book today,in fact, I'm considering the moose in the near future. Oh, and use the jigsaw!

Pete and Joy

Thanks for your response. I have both of Mary Duke Guldan's books.I wish she, or someone, would publish more glue up patterns.
