Who can disagree with the fun of having a couple of Grandkids around to pass on some of the enjoyment of this craft we all love. This is Miriam helping me add some color to Crusty's Stetson. The only drawback to such a scene is that it will make it just that much harder to part with the figure knowing that she played a part in it's creation even though it may have been a small one. It's moments like this that make life worthwhile so we should cherish them when they occur.

For sure! We get to visit with our 3-year old grandson tonight during a visit to Columbus, OH. July 30th, we were with our grandaughter while she registered for college, which starts Aug. 26th. It's amazing to see them grow up so quickly, but it's really gratifying to see them so happy. Mike

Grand kids that take a special interest in your work do warm your heart. Last year Keyleigh was up for a week and I was working on a small owl. She was watching Mickey and I went in to do some woodburning. She came in and watched me a couple of minutes and became very concearned that the owl I was working on, had no eyes. I told her that I put them in later, but she was still concearned, so I finished up the feather burning and we went into the workbench and mixed up epoxy and I told her to put in the eyes. She got so excited, we finished up both eyes and detail and she was happy. She got ready to go home and ask if she could have the owl when it was finished and of course I gladly agreeded. That Christmas one of her last gifts to open was the Owl, she almost cried, she said "Oh Papa MY owl" now doesn't that make your day? She is 5 and the kids adopted her from Gutamala when she was 6 months old.

Hey Lynn, I know just how you feel. Two of my grandchildren who live in Colorado spent a week with us in July. The first thing they had to say to me when they arrived was "Grandpa, willl you teach us to carve." They each did a small floral relief which they were very proud to show to all.

As part of my Grandson's homeschooling they have to have an art class. My wife was a fine arts major in College and she taught them for a couple years. Two years ago the oldest 2 decided they wanted to learn carving and we've been working on that for some time. Now the youngest has decided to give it a try. I like to use old Tom Wolf video's where we can watch several steps then stop and carve those details. The kids love it too.

Lynn, your grand daughter is a real cutie! Isn't it great to have the grand kids around? Regrettably, our's live out of state so we don't see them as often as we like, but our oldest is due in Nov/Dec so we'll have 'Lilly' over often...maybe show her how to carve... Should be fun! Again, congratulations on your 'joint carving'...it's almost as cute as your grand child! Kenn

GRANDKIDS... Hey, I'll carve with anybody's kids. I am convinced that I will start at least one Michelangelo or DaVinici on his way to greatness. Most kids don't really get it. For them it is fun for about 10 minutes. But every once in a while I get one that just lights up and you know they just discovered something. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about a couple of them. |
