| | Old Fashion Santa or Wizard? Hello everyone,
I took the opportunity this weekend to finally go through Mark Gargac's CD tutorial and this is what I came up with. I've been asked to do a Father Christmas for someone and thought this might pass as one, however, my daughter tells me he looks like a wizard. You'll see that I ran out of wood for his beard (very typical of me) and tried a different color for the hair and whiskers.
This is the first piece of wood I have ever purchased since carving but I'll be sure to get another hunk of basswood soon. Learned alot from Mark's tutorial but still falling short on what I am trying to carve. Now that I see my pics I can see where I got overzealous with the parting tool in the hair and whiskers. I am still to put on the dark satin wax which should heighten his features some more. Thanks for viewing.

| | Re: Old Fashion Santa or Wizard? Patrick .. That is one great looking face .. I love the aged look of the character .. A santa ..maybe ... But i would go for the wizard or mountain man at my first look ...
The detail is marvelous .. and your finish is great ..
Excellent work .. one the best I have ever seen from you ..

| | Re: Old Fashion Santa or Wizard? Patrick, I think you did a great job of following Mark's CD. I have to agree with your daughter, but I think he looks more Mountain Man than Wizard. As for santa you'll figure how to get that santa face cause your a terrific carver! You can do it.

| | Re: Old Fashion Santa or Wizard? Great job carving the face. I don't think it is Santa...but then I am still trying to come up with my idea of Santa. I don't think you were over zealous with the beard and hair. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
