As the pictures below will show, I have out grown my Tool Box.it is going to hurt to have to build another, but its not very functional now.It is one I made out of Old Wormy Chestnut,so if its not a secret, lets see your Tool Boxes to inspire me on some ideas.

Mark,

I don't have a picture of mine, but it's a big ol' plastic tackle box from Wally World. I'm outgrowing that also, and I'm considering one of the machinist's tool chests if I can pick one up at a reasonable price.

Similar to this one:

I haven't had this very long. I have out grown it as far as holding all my tools but it is great for a take along with most used tools in it. I need to make something like yours for the spill over tools not used all the time and for all my knives.

Mark, is this your travel box or shop storage box?

For travel, I only carry a few basic tools, as weight is an issue for me. By travel, perhaps I should say "waiting": doctors offices, malls, hospital, etc. It is in the form of a shaving kit leather traveller.

If I travel overnight or longer, I have a larger selection I take and I use a different case, a laptop computer leather case.

For the shop, I have a tool chest that I made to hold the majority, but I've outgrown that and intend to add a secondary level to it, with drawers for my Pfeil tools. Right now they are in small wooden trays, holding about a dozen gouges in each.

Mark,
I don't have a picture of mine, but I used a large tackle box for years--put all the misc stuff in the top and first drawer (swiss cloth, eye punches, files, rifflers, wood putty, pencils, eyes, bus cards, calipers, buffing compound, etc.) then palm tools in 2nd drawer and big tools in next two and knives in bottom. But it was getting pretty heavy and I didn't need everything when I'd just go to weekly carving, so I just got a decorative wood box that latched from Hobby Lobby and now onlly carry what I think I'll need for that trip. Still not ideal, but haven't found the total ideal situation yet.

All that said, however, I think your outgrown box would work nicely for me and since all your tools aren't totally matched, just include them. You'll be much better off just ordering all of them new with the same handles so they will look better in your next, bigger box. OK? Just trying to help you out here!

Actually, your tool box looks great. Your organizational skills look pretty good too. Just make a slightly bigger one. I'm assuming that none of the tools are long enough that the tips touch the bottom. So how deep is it? Do you mark the top of your tool handles with some symbol so you can tell at a glance what each one is? (I can't tell from the photo.)

If u use a machinist tool box, make sure there is enough depth for the tool handle. I'm talking the vertical depth!

Corey -- THAT'S the one I'm drooling about .... I really want that one to carry tools to my club meetings. Right now I just toss those precious things into a Rubbermaid plastic box.
