Default ohio redbud tree,

my question is , the tree the people in ohio ,call redbud,
is it an hard wood, and would it be good for carving walking sticks, have access to many of the tress and it appears the are the right size for sticks, any help on this ???

It's a hardwood but I've never carved it. Has a nice bark. It's also the state of Oklahoma's designated tree!

I have some redbud trees in my yard, in Ohio. We transplanted them 11 years ago and they still aren't more than 3" in diameter. So, yes they are hardwood, by definition, and they have fairly long and skinny branches that look like they'd make walking sticks, but I've never tried to carve it. Mike
