I hope I'm not violating the rules by asking an off topic question. But, it does involve chisels. ![]() Can any of you point me towards a resource which would show me the basics on making mortise & tennon joints? Books or internet? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

BlackDog, Although I haven't suscribed to Wood Magazine for several years, it used to have some of the best articles for basic wood working topics like your question about mortise and tennon. They'd be the first place I'd look. Also, although I don't look there very often, how about the wood working section at the bottom of our own Carving World Message Board? Good Luck Donna T

I have a book called 'The Woodwright's Shop' ' practical guide to Traditional Woodworking' by Roy Underhill. This book seems to cover Mortices and Tenons on several pages. ISBN 0-8078-4082-3 I hpe that is helpful! ![]() Donna W |

There are several books out on joinery (none of which I have ) all of which ought to cover the mortise and tennon. One that comes to mind is called the Joint Book. Just hit amazon.com and type in Joinery.

[/quote] You're sure that book isn't about funny little cigarettes?? ![]() Thanks to everyone for their help. I'll look into the varoius books and website. I'm wanting to build a Japanese styled pergola in the spring, and am going to do my homework, draw plans over the winter, and practice making some mortise & tennon joints. |
