I kinda thought too with the real pointed ears it might have been a cat also!

You have to keep going Curt,if it was something for you,you could just junk it and start over, Just glue/bond it all back together.

Sorry it happen! Was that wood a hard wood??

It sure was looking really good plus such a little piece that you had done great on.

Forrest-Yes when first started carved down into grain, going up or down pieces would chip off. Knive was sharp for basswood but not for Leopard,so I got my foredom out.

Curt:
As you get down to the thinner parts, putting some super glue (CA) on it and letting it dry will add strength to the wood. The other technique that helps is to make sure when you do use a knife that you use a slicing action, instead of pushing the blade straight into the wood like a chisel. And only take super-thin shavings of wood with each cut.

I've also resorted to carving over a clean surface and when something sometimes falls off, or begins to crack off, I can add some super glue and go have a cup of coffee while it dries.

emmm' Leopard wood.... tough to work but beautiful...

never carved it but i did get a piece for knife handles, and the one knife handle i made was dimpled on every light spot in the wood,
i cut out the blank on band saw, then used a drum sander to shape it out, appears the spots in the wood are ultra soft compared to the dark wood, seams the soft backing on the drum sander eats soft wood lots faster, leaving golf ball surface finish,
sanding should have been done with a flat hard backing in my case...

if i was carving a commission i would start over, super glue will put it back together, but only time will tell if it stays together...
