Default North Arkansas Woodcarvers Show

The annual North Arkansas Woodcarvers Show is scheduled for Mt. Home on May 1 & 2. I plan on being there the afternoon of May 1st and would like to meet those of you that might be attending during that time.

I talked to Marge Heinecke the other day, she and Dale will be bringing a load of wood to the show. With the demise of the Silver Dollar City Seminar, this may be the last opportunity for those of us in this area to get northern basswood (until next year's show) without having to pay the horrendus shipping costs.

Hi Paul,
I also plan on being there May 1st Saturday. I look forward to meeting any of you there. I am gonna stock up on the wood from Heinike. His wood is by far the best cutting wood I have ever gotten. I look forward to seeing you and your wife again.

Paul - It sounds like fun, and we are presently in Arkansas (West Memphis), but we're heading on. We may be in Pennsylvania by May 1. Let us know how the event turns out.

Paul and all,
Barring anything unforeseen, I'm planning to cruise down that way to take in the show. It will probably be noonish before I make it--looks like it's 3 1/2+ hours, but I'm counting on it being a great spring day trip. Hope to see you all there.

Looks like the forecast is for another downpour like last year. However, I'll be there rain or shine. Where'd I put those hip boots?

Well folks, the show starts tomorrow and I am looking forward to it and to meeting those from the Forum who will also be attending.

When I head over to Mt. Home, I eat at one of two restaurants and recommend them to those of you heading in from the west. Both are easily reached and have reasonable prices.

The Front Porch is in Yellville (about 20 miles west of Mt. Home) and right on U.S. 62. They have a buffet with everything from fish to bar-b-que.

The other, where I will be stopping at noon tomorrow, is Sodie's Founatin and Grill in the old railroad station at Flippin (12 miles west of Mt. Home). To get to this one you will have to follow business 62 into Flippin. Sodie's is just across the railroad tracks where the highway makes a 90 degree turn. I recommend the fried catfish or chicken fried steak.

Thunderstorms are predicted........so all of you attending be sure and take care.

I had a blast! It was really cool to meet everyone in person... a lot easier to talk than it is to type. I was somewhat in awe meeting carvers like Mike Shipley and the Bishops and seeing the work of other artists. I'm still not sure if I brought too much or not enough money....but pretty happy with the tools and stuff I brought home. Can't wait till next year!

Mike,
The show was a good one. Lots of competition, great carvings, great displays, and good supplies available. It was good to see the Bishops--saw them at the KC show for the first time in years. Other pro carvers: Shipley, Bruce F, and the show judge, Randy Landon--hard to beat the quality of their work.

It was good to meet you and other WCI message board regulars. Always good to see Paul and Diana and hope to carve again with them this summer. Beautiful countryside--great way to spend a Saturday. Spent the first 1 1/2 hours of the drive and the last 1 1/2 horus of the drive in pouring rain--but enjoyed the show.
