This is my pasta spoon. I made it in March, but forgot to post it. It was going to be a soup ladle, but it has lots of birdseye in it. Some of the birdseye had little cracks, so I was afraid food crud would get in the cracks and be hard to clean out. The holes in it are were the biggest cracks were. Also were I carved out the tines on it. It was a small tanoak tree that got cleared out when we had our leach field dug. The bowl was the rootball just under the ground. Tanoaks when they are cut down will send up numerous new trunks. The birdseye is where the new shoots come from. The root ball is basically a burl. The spoon measures about 14 1/2 inches. It would be longer without the curve. It works pretty good for getting long noodles out of the pot. I used power and hand tools on it. I used walnut oil and my used frenchfry oil on it. I oil it after each use. This is the only spoon I have kept for me! I'm a good girl and wash it by hand, unlike my store bought wooden spoons which I used to throw in the dishwasher. I now wash them by hand. It's funny, before I started carving spoons I didn't care much for wooden ones, because I was to lazy to wash them by hand.So they didn't get used to much. Anyway hope you like my funky pasta spoon and comments and critiques are welcomed. Thanks for looking.

That is indeed one funky pasta spoon! Love it. Looking at each of the pictures I got a good feel for the spoon and can tell that it will do a good job grabbing the noodles. Gosh, I'm still trying to get all my coffee scoop gifts carved and now I can see that I'm gonna have to have one of these too. This is also one of those projects that are destined to become a family heirloom so don't you dare get rid of it. A big thanks for letting us see this one!

The birdseyes and grain patterns in the bowl are really pretty. Could there be some hiding in the handle? Your pasta spoon is very creative.

Phil, thankyou also. The spots on the handle were where little branches were growing. It looked kind of like the ugly dead little charlie brown Christmas tree.My husband kind of rolled his eyes when I hauled it home, but last night he cooked dinner and used it. He said it worked well! Thanks for looking.

Thankyou Forrest! I really like the grain also. There's another little tanoak at the base of a big cypress tree, they both blew over together winter before last, that I hope isn't rotten. Probably pretty too. thanks for looking.

Thankyou Kris for looking and I'm glad you like it. Did you get all your friendship cane segments done? I haven't checked that out in a while.

Sharon, now that's a real winner. Weird for sure, but beautiful, very creative on your part and I'm surprised to hear you let Wayne use it already. Ain't no way anyone can copy that piece, you did a great job. Cliff |
