Hi everyone;I've been gone awhile but I'm glad to be back.After reading thru your e-mails and searching the net I'm still coming up blank for a pattern that the club can adapte for a carving of noah's ark.We have David Sabol's book and we like the ark design but we need more animal and people patterns, anybody got some ideas where we might come up with them????Thank YouMaryjo

Maryjo, Last year our carving club did a Noahs Ark for raffle. Each member carved a few sets of animals. We sold raffle tickets for $1 each, and made right at $1000. Here is a photo of the set. I used one of my Arks to photo the animals with because it's larger than the one from the raffle. Oh, by the way, I won the raffle. You might be able to get an idea for the animals that we used from this photo. It made a super group project. One person did all the patterns, another few cut the blanks, and well the rest was done by the members. Tom H |

Hi Mary Jo, have you thought about just drawing an outline of the animal you want, in the size you want, then cutting it out of a piece of wood the thickness that would allow you to carve a few details on it? You would have complete control of size that way and it doesn't seem like it would be too hard. I can't draw worth a darn, but I can do profiles of things and it's easier to carve the details in than it is to draw in on a flat piece of paper.......just a thought. |
