Default Newest issue

So...I'm waited with bated breath...

Have you seen the newest issue? What do you think?

I know Callyanne has seen it...but...no one's talking about it yet!

I haven't gotten it yet. Must be extra special if you are "waiting with baited breath", !

What kind of bait did you use and what do you expect to catch?

Just got mine late yesterday, Bob. Haven't had a chance to look it over really well yet, but from a quick going over, I like it! Seems up to your old standards and is well prepared. I particularly like the piece on wood cut printing. My dad used to do some of that but I never got to learn, as he pased away when I was quite young.

Someone was aking questions about carving scales on the website last week, and there is an excellent sectionon that process in the new issue.

Great piece on raptors and habitat, too!

I was a little dissapointeds in the piece on carving that muskie, as it turned out to be merely a pattern and plug for Stillers. I have purchased quite a few Stiller patterns and recommended them to a lot of other carvers, but was looking forward to some practical advice on actual carving (maybe on the fin development on the non-salmonid species)

It was nice to see Deborah Call's article, too, and Dave's use of "OLD BROOMS". Just goes to show what lengths some retired folks will go in thier search for ways to waste time! hehehe!

Nice overall work on the mag...I look forward to each and evey issue and this one just reinforces my anticipation.

Thumbs up Re: Newest issue

I received mine yesterday. I like it.

I liked the article on work holders--like continue to see more "tips" articles and "how-to" articles in future issues--always good to see stuff that gives you more ways to do things.

The Ozark Caricature was good--will try that sometime this summer when I'm caught up on yard work and other carvings that I spend 15 minutes here---20 minutes there on.

I liked the Classsic Book ends article particularly since I just bought some books on Classic wood carving by the same author.

Callynne's Fairy Box was great!

Sorry, I'm not big on engraving or burning so those articles don't really appeal to me. Same with duck decoys or true to life wildlife carving. Don't get me wrong--I think there's some great work there, but it's not my cup of tea. But I do like caricature animals--so I'd like to see more of those, too.

I don't have the magazine in front of me--it's home with my Dad. So, if I've left anything out, remind me!

BTW--lose that dopey fox! I can't find it to save myself! LOL

Great job BobD, Shannon and staff!

Bob

Bob, (Liferescue) Don't feel too bad about that fox.......I've figured it out. They put an electronic chip in each magazine that is triggered to print that canine coniver AFTER someone says he found it, or the next issue comes out with the "secret" location! It AIN'T REALLY THERE, untill the chip is programmed to print it in your magazine NEXT ISSUE!

HA, Admin, I got your number and ya ain't kiddin' me no more!

Thumbs up Re: Newest issue

got mine y'day too...thanks for the tip on the fox Al, I was gonna make an appointment with the Optometrist, but given what you said I can see just fine (LOL!)

Bob, great magazine, not much for chip or relief carving but the remainder of the content was outstanding, gonna have to carve an Ozark character myself. I thought the Teachers section was really good in adressing some paint questions, and I liked the habitat article.

A suggestion for future articles (if you don't have any on the subject) would be dealing with composition and layout (a figure in a scene), and also selecting a color pallete for a figure (I know the bird folks have it down to an art) which could help us make better color selections for our carvings...

...still the best carving magazine going, keep up the great work!!

The Dave Sabol and Fairy Box articles were the best!

Bob:
Received mine in Monday's mail. Didn't get a chance to look until last night, though. My favorite article was Mike Shiply's Ozark caricature. And I didn't find that @#$%@#%@ Fox yet...

What tears it,Got mine yesterday and the LBride Ripped open the plastic covering(which I appreciate) and I haven't got it yet.
However, she did says they was a real nice article on Deborah Call's Fairy box and she like the article as well as Deborah's fairy.
So I guess I will wait till the LittleB gets finished.
But reading all the posts here, less exciting when I do. BOOHOO!
Isn't there a law against other people reading your mail
