| | New walking stick (Work in progress) Hi gang,
I know you havent seen a lot from me lately but only because of my injury. I have been told by the doctor to take things easy with this shoulder or I could find myself in trouble. While on that field trip I managed to snatch a couple of sticks from under the dragons nose. I have this WIP on this stick that is about five feet high. I started to carve it and began to wonder how many faces I could put into this sumac staff. To date I have fifteen roughed out I think I should be able to get about twenty five in it before I am finished. This is not a commission so there is no time limit. I am actually having a lot of fun with it and when it is finished it will probably be claimed by my grandson. I just thought I would let you have a look at it in its initial stages and I will update as I go. As you all know I thrive on constructive critisism so have at me I dont take offence, and although I probably cant change this stick I can learn and do the next one different.

| | Re: New walking stick (Work in progress) Glad to hear that you're able to keep yourself busy. I can't say that I'd blame your grandson for laying claim to the walking stick, it's looking very nice!
Just don't over do it with the shoulder!

I can't beleive this , and your not going to either. Between , the weather, work , and honey do's I have not had time to do a tree in the last week or so, but since you and Goody have me insane , I decide to try something a bit different , Without knowing WCI was doing an article on staffs , I did one, I enjoyed it a lot as I could do it in the evenings. Finished it then started one with faces , for the practice and for enjoyment.
I like your Staff (impressive ) , but please take it easy Mate !
Ash
improved the pics.

| | Re: New walking stick (Work in progress) Colin, Like that sumac stick. Like the faces in it and your work is impressive as usual.Always amazed at the two colors your sticks have. Hope you are recoverying well and at our age, We need to listen to what the doctors say.
Best to you and your recovery.
BTW, Colin the second picture, top of the two faces is my favorite. They all are neat but that one is my fav.
Hey Colin, in your pictures, that big guy behind your stick, looks like he has taken ownership of the stick. Well, just the way he was eyeing it. HEHEHEHEE
Ash,
Neat staff fo sure. I know about those 12 hour shifts and honey do's. If I knew about all the honey do's before I retired, I probably would have stayed at work. Not really! I has been a blast with the little bride.
Gentelman, OUTSTANDING carvings. |

Beautiful staff! If the Grandson doesn't grab it, put it on ebay and let us fight over it! Just let us know it's there!
Take care of yourself!

| | | Re: New walking stick (Work in progress) Colin, Wish you the best during your fast injury healing process, and finally get to see a project of yours made with smaller tools, the faces look great and the whole piece will be very easily be a "Keeper". Enjoy the way you have the hair/beards flowing into each other. By the way, nice "mug-shot" in the current issue of WCI.
Ash...good job on your multi faced stick too, I'm going to give a stick a try in a few days based on the WCI article. |

| | Re: New walking stick (Work in progress) Thanks for the compliments ! Doing the conquistadors is giving a lot of practice on different looks beards and faces , I don't think I will go for 25 but at 6 now and plenty of room for more. But will probley change soon and finish it a bit differently following the same theme .
