I am close to finishing up this walking stick and still trying to figure if I should stain it in cherry or oak or do I paint it and then try to seal it. Any Idea?? I do know what the heck fussing is LOL this diamond willow sure has a tendency to do that when I tried to sand it with my dremel.

I would not paint it. Leave it natural and finish it with some "Mylands" brand wax or some other type. You will like the result! Try it on a scrap peice first to see if you like it though. Neat looking stick! Don |

Idea If it were mine I wouldn't paint it either, I'd probably put some type of stain and a protective stealer on it. Thumbs Up I really like your walking cane. Is that a handle I see and is there little critter inside the handle? I like this very much and you did an excellent job! Kathy

I agree, stain and seal. That is an excellent job on the walking stick. I like the detail and the handle. Nice job picking out the wood!

This is the upper part of the stick where I am attempting to make a wood elf or pisky. Sometime its like "should I go ahead and add more or not" lol then that extra screws it all up. Still working and this part.

If you paint it or paint it, it isn't natural! A light oak and then a satin finish. But then it isn't mine. BTW, it is a neat looking stick. I still haven't finished my Eagle Head Cane but have added the American flag draped down the pole. Now I have to paint it or at least the Eagle head and Flag. May carve something else. maybe that is why it isn't finished./ Of course I am keeping this one for myself and add it to my collection of walking stick, I carved in Scouts.

Here's my thoughts on it, since it's diamond willow keep it natural, with some stain. If it were something like Aspen or basswood I would be more apt to paint it.But the final decision is yours. Its looking good already

Great design. I like the ideas given about leaving it natural wood. I don't think you can carve too much on the stick. The pixie will just add more wonderful views. Thanks for showing it to us, and keep us posted with more images as you finish it. Thor |

Ditto on the comments of the others I have never painted one of my sticks I always leave them natural. Diamond Willow is so naturally beautiful that painting it would ruin it. BTW great looking stick love the pixie on the top. Colin
