Default New Spoon of Rare wood

Well gang, a friend and I were bear hunting in the deepest forrests of down town Toronto Ontario a few weeks ago (very wild country there). Anyway, I came upon a piece of a branch that I did not recognize, I showed it to several people and no one could tell me what it was. So, off I went to the Agricultural College in Guelph, (80 mile drive) and had to leave it there for 4 days while they tried to decide just what I had found. Well, much to my amazment and research it was detirmined it was good old BASSWOOD so I made a spoon out of it, and here it is.

I sure do. I have collected wood from all over the world--I never paid for a bit of it. I gathered it very much like you indicated you did with the basswood. Sometime I had no idea what the name was, and some I still dont know. I sure got some weird looks from the customs inspectors at times. Sometimes they would call in the dogs--wondering what the hxxx I was up to. The dogs also had some strange looks when they finally concluded---"Nope it's just wood pieces"

That's some unusual basswood you got there, Cliff. No wonder it took them 4 days to decide what it was.

Another great looking spoon. I see you put a kitchen wizard on it to keep an eye on the cooking. He looks a little surprised, though. Is it because he saw you come into the kitchen and pick up the spoon to help out your bride?

I may be wrong(yep, I am most of the time), but the grain on that piece sure don't look like basswood. I can see why it took the pros 4 days to decide what it was.

anyway Cliff, Nice looking spoon.

Great looking spoon Cliff, your getting too good on those! Kenny, I was thinking the same thing, the grain is pretty pronounced for basswood and pretty wild even, but who knows.

Why you little devil, that's a mighty fine spoon you made from found wood. The gnome, or Santa or whoever he is on the handle, looks just as surprised as I feel after finding this post! Hah, nice job Cliffy!
