Default New guy...Classes???

I just wnted to say hello from Nebraska. I am fairly new to caricature carving, but I absolutely love it....just not enough time to do all that I'd like. I have been lurking around for awhile, and have read some very insiteful (sic) and helpful hints and suggestions, the regulars and board moderators are to be commended. The carving artwork by some of the members of this board is probably some of the best in the world...and I mean that. Terry Embrey and Rick from Seattle should get paid for participating in this site.

Now that I got the mushy, sucking up out of the way...I am looking for someone who knows where I can find out when and where some of our more famous Caricature Carves will be giving seminars or classes. Is there a site on the net that would have a consolidated list of the their schedules. How about you Rick from Seattle, what are your plans...and how far east of the Rockies (if at all) would you go to teach a class?

thanks again all....terrific site with great people and a great service!!!....Matthew

My apologies...should have paid more attention and put this in the beginners folder, I promise to be more careful the next time.

I don't know how to move it over there...but the moderators probably do....feel free to move it if you'd like.

Thanks.....Matt

Try this

www.cca-carvers.org

Or go any of the individual carvers website. Their schedules are ususally listed. Another option is to look in the back of the popular magazines - WoodCarving Illustrated, Chip Chats, etc.

Matt,
I will say thanks from Teri and myself since I know Teri is very busy before Christmas.

I haven't been able to find time lately to teach any classes on either side of the rockies. I retire in four years so that will probably allow me a little more travel time.

Rick

One of the best places to find out about current classes in the Wood Carving Illustrated magazine. They are regularly listed in the back of the mazazine. I attended two classes this year. A three day class with DAve Stetson which was really great and a three day class with Janet Cordell which was equally impressive. It certainly takes you to the next level. You can learn a lot on your own and from books but taking a class from a Master is like drinking from a fire hose. Your knowledge and skill level will improve geometrically.

Hello Again All:

BillinO....Thanks for the welcome...having a blast. I live just outside of Omaha. I had heard about the 33rd & Layfayette meetings, but thought maybe it could be a little scary after dark in that neighborhood. Maybe you can tell me different. Sure wish there was a meeting place somewhere a little further west.
Greyhair..and the rest...thanks for the welcome and the info. Much appreciated!!!

Matthew

Welcome Matthew,
Regardless of how old you are or how long you've been carving, there's always something new to learn about carving. And you're right, we're so lucky to have really good carvers here to help us. Welcome to wood carving!

About all I can add, in addition to the Wood Carving Illustrated magazine that lists carving seminars all around the country, Chip Chats magazine (the publication for the National Wood Carvers Association) lists shows and seminars, too.

Matthew I'm not totaly sure but think there is a club in Fremont. I would bet the Omaha club could give you info on it. I work on Saturdays so cant go to the 38th meeting site. It is during the day so think it would be allright. Sorry couldnt be more help. The Omaha club has a show each October, very good carvings, and very nice people. Bill in Omaha
