Default new ENlow book/study sticks

Has anyone seen either of these items from Fox Chapel Publishing?. Looks like a catch all book with projects, and then individual study sticks, and smaller carry around booklet for each project in the main book. Curious if anyone has seen any of them yet? Looks like they should be a nice teaching aid. Dennis

They are very nice. Like you said, the little booklet with each study stick. Its like a kit. The bigger book arrived late last week so everything came as expected.

I ordered most of the Harold Enlow study stick kits when they first were announced last May through Amazon. They arrived this past weekend (second weekend in August, 2011 -- roughly three months later). As you might have guessed, anticipation was very high.

The tutorials (booklet) are well written and documented with color photos. The author describes how to make each cut. The problem comes when you try and correlate the description back to the study stick. It appeared to me that the steps explained and illustrated in the booklet didn't match those carved into the study stick.

Also, it appears that the study sticks are made from two pieces that are later melded together. The joints on some of my study sticks contained examples of the author's work but the detail was 'smudged' where these joints were made.

The study sticks have proved very helpful to me even with the flaws in quality. The ability to hold in my hand, study at length, to see proper scale up close, and think through how the cuts were made to create the piece is nothing short of wonderful.

I'm glad that I bought them but disappointed that they didn't meet their true potential. My abilities took a huge step forward in carving ears (and noses - the two I have studied so far) after reading the booklet and viewing the study stick.
