Attended the NEWC yesterday- unfortunately I missed some of the other posters from this forum. As usual the approximately 1/3 of all the entries were of birds and decoys. It is always amazing to me the color and detail of the bird carvers. For me the highlight of the show was watching Pete Leclair instructing a youngster on the finer points of carving. Below are photos of Pete (orange hat and spectacles) and some of his work- He graciously gave me permission to take the photos. |

Besides the carvings on the main floor there were some amazing carvings in the vendors hall that were not put in for judging. The pumpkin is made from a basswood log. The lobster look god enough to eat. I went looking for a net to scoop up the fish. |

Here are some other photos from vendors and club tables. The first photo is that of a vendor who was carving using his home made power carving set up. The fan is a ventilator fan purchased at home depot with a filter in front of it. The fan was barely audible. He has a plexiglass top and carves with the work on his lap seperated from him by the plexiglass. The pumpkins were done by an artist with airbrush. |

The first two are of carving done by an individual in the Master category- received best in show. There are also some birds that caught my eye |

I am told that the trumpet is fully functional and can be played. Perhaps some of the other attendees can add their own photos to this thread. |

Great carvings and great photos! I also had the wonderful opportunity of meeting Pete LeClair last summer. He is amazing. I also have a number of photos of him - and just like yours they are mostly of the top of his hat as he is alway in the carving position. Thanks for sharing! Ken |

Hi Doc, Thanks for sharing the pix. I had been thinking of heading east for the show and ended up staying in the Berkshires all day. Sad I missed it, but glad to see you posting these. Mark |
