Nice carvings Randy yes I like the hillbilly spirit great imagination. Looks by your album you have been busy. BTW I see you carve elm, I have one in my back yard that died last year how does it carve? Unfortunatly all the elm in this part of the world have that Dutch Elm disease it even gets the young trees when they are a few years old.

Colin, elm is extremely hard and is a little brittle when you try to do detail work, but if you go slow and use a light touch, you can get a little detail out of it, but you might want to keep a bottle of glue around just in case.
