A few weeks ago I asked for advice regarding a branch stub that showed up as I was roughing out a carving, and I got some excellent advice on how to repair it. I thought I'd just bring everyone up to date on the "Fix". The first picture is the problem, and thanks to Mark Yundt the second picture shows the fix. (sorry about the fuzzy photo, mt camera doesn't do closeups well.) In the closeup the fix looks lighter in color than the rest of the carving but from a distance it is actually very close to the natural color if not a bit darker. The third picture is the Finished carving, I call it WarBird, and I plan to use just paste wax for the final finish. I really enjoyed carving this piece of Black Cherry, I'll have to branch out from basswood and butternut more often.

You seem pleased with the results. Glad I could help in some way. Congratulations on a beautiful piece and a successful repair. Once you have one under your belt all the rest become easier when the process is understood and used to it's best advantage. That Cherry is wonderful to carve. Finishes nice too as you can see. Bass was never one of my favorite woods. Easy to carve,, but essentially boring to look at or finish. |

Beautiful work, TreeWizard. Nobody will notice the repair. Even knowing it's there, it'd be hard to spot.
