The forum has always been a great place to get answers - but now it's time to do it backwards. I'm thinking about doing interviews of all the members in my carving club for my newsletter. What would be some good questions to ask?

I've done this before for our local newsletter. Quite often the club is somewhat familiar with what kind of carvings done by the person you are interviewing. I was surprised at the interest generated by non-carving questions. Where did you grow up? Where did you go to high school, technical school or college? What different career fields have you been active in? What's your other "favorite" hobby? How many children? How many wives? Carving questions: What started you to carve? How long have you been carving? How many classes have you taken & who with? Do you sell your work? What's the most difficult carving you've ever done? What's your favorite carving? And that's just for starter questions! ![]() John Moore Greenville SC http://www.johnmoorewoodcarver.com |

Ken I think it might be a bit more interesting if you asked "Why?" Were I you, I would try to get into their heads and ask about the satisfactions gained, emotions met and lost within a carving, What feelings do you have when a carving is recieved or sold. Ask about their senses of pride when something is well recieved. Ask about their "perfect" carvings or their feelings on the obtaining of the "Perfect Carving". Maybe Bob |

What is the first thing you carved, and do you still have it? Personally, my first carving sits where I can see it daily, and I have been hard pressed not to pick it up and make improvements on it..... |
