Default Re: Need a Portable "bench"

The thing I liked about my Harbor Freight table - adjustable height, tilt top, fairly heavy, I could always add a different top at a later date, clamping capability built in.

If I need to weight it down I have a couple options - 1. Add a shelf across the bottom supports and place weight on that. 2. Add a plywood floor underneath and attach the bottom of the legs to it via angle iron and bolts. Then my own weight standing or sitting on it becomes the stability required. 3. Simply step on the bottom cross supports temporarily.

Check it out here -> http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=94214

$30 is hard to beat.

Hmm - I think that depends on what he means by vise. If you mean your typical workshop bench vise (like the quick release Record style shouder or tail vise) then no - the workmate won't work.

If he means a work positioner like the Panavise or similar work holding devises then that should be no problem. I intend to do so on mine eventually. Maybe even mount a carving arm, and a stick holding jig for carving hiking/walking sticks.

Just a thought.
