Default need an ID for a new toy

Hey Y'all,
Yesterday I wa looking arround a thrift store here in Vegas and I found this nifty vise. It's portable, the legs fold and it can expand to hold a piece of wood about 5 feet long. It's really quite solid. There are no identifying marks on this thing at all. Can anyone tell me who made it and where I might be able to get accessories for it? By the way, I paid 90.00 for it.

Thank you,
Dan

Hey Dan...looks like you made quite a find there! Certainly looks sturdy enough yet portable too... Sorry, I have no idea who made it nor have I seen anything quite like it before...but I bet it won't be long before someone more experienced will be able to identify it and help you out... In the meantime, looks like you've got a 'keeper' there and I certainly could think of several projects I could use it for...especially for that price! Again, congratulations on your find!

You're right Wiliam it is similar. I wonder if this might be an early prototype. It would account for the lack of markings.

Thank you,
Dan

Dan, having worked in the hardware trade I can almost guarantee you that your find is a Chinese design rip-off of something like the Triton, Black & Decker or similar branded item. That is not to say it is a poor quality tool but, it may prove hard to get parts and accessories for. Any trademarked tool will have an identification name on it in big bold letters. Not sure if this helps your situation at all, but for $90 it is a decent find. Joe.

There is also a Rockwell Jawhorse (you don't want to know what they cost) and Ridgid makes one called a jawhorse also.

Well Sappy has given me a name for my gizmo. It's definitely a jawhorse. Josef is probably right in that it's knockoff of some namebrand. The downside is that I don't know which one. We have a lot of tradeshows here and the lot of stuff that this was with looked like it came from one.

Thanks all!
Dan

"Hernia" would be a good id if it is as heavy as the Triton I've got.
