Default Native Bust

First attempt at a native american. Decided to try my hand at painting, it didn’t turn out awful as my prior attempts. I dipped him in linseed oil, after drying for a couple of days, I painted the headband, and hair with acrylics.I would appreciate any suggestions in finishing these types of carvings. I copied a pattern by Mark Gargac out of a magazin. Modified the face somewhat, the Jeff Phares books are a great help to me. Any suggestions are welcome, sometimes I overlook the obvious mistakes. I am trying to improve with each new carving. Thanks for looking.

Carl

Carl,
Very nice work. You got lots of character in the face.
You asked so I'll suggest - lots of wrinkles in the headband would create shadows and really make it pop.

Hello Carl, Great job on your first Bust! You got a good profile and everything is in the right place, maybe a little more attention to the eyes. Check out my Video on eye carving at my Blog site, here is the link to a series of Eye tutorial videos : 3Crosseswoodcarving - Carving Videos .
Enjoy and keep at it!

Hi, Carl...I like the face a lot...and agree with Bill about the headband....I think, too, if you painted the hair more in a wash and maybe drybrushed with another color, it would help, too. The carving is great. Bonnie
