This is a native american in the style of Jeff Phares. The finish is a mistake. I mixed burnt and turp with another bottle that had linseed oil in the mix. it took days to dry. Then i put to many coats of polly and some parts turned light. Guess i was having a bad something i don't want to say day. Click on the url below to view. Thanks Feb

It to me looks better darker than being just a light carving! Native Americans are darker skined anyway. It brings out the details in this Indian more being darker! I think its great work! What type of wood is the Native American & Mtn Man carved in???

The Native American is catalpa. The mtn man is basswood. also as it dryed more the light shades dissapeared. Thanks for looking Feb.

Hello Feb, Just catching up on your work - great carvings. You've been busy...and demonstrating some great skill and advancements from your previous carvings (which by the way were also good). Having been away from the site for a number of months, and coming back to see your latest carvings shows that you've learning a few more new tricks of the trade. Based on your pics, the finish looks fine. As was said, the NA skin tends to be darker so it works for you. I hope to post some of my latest carvings soon as I'm working on a braided mustache which is taking me longer than expected. Thanks for sharing your work. Patrick |
