I was giving this character a pair of sun glasses and asked my son,"what does he look like".What would a 15 year old say but I don't know dad. Anyway,it is rhodendren and a walking stick.

HA HA HA!! This one sure made me smile! Now, that's one cool-io woodspirit if I don't mind saying so myself. Never thought about sunglasses. If I were a 15 year old I believe that I would have called him "Coke bottle eyes" but at my age I'll try to be a little more mature (fat chance!) and just refer to him as Coke Bottle glasses! Nice one!

I have posted quite a few rhodendren walking sticks in the past.I either carve them wet or very dry.When they are dry they can get very soft for carving. I like them because of the natural twist and turns and the ivory color when you shave off the bark. They are a very sturdy stick or staff for hiking. I have done a lot more with the rhodendren, but have not posted any pictures. As for the paint for the sunglasses it was just some left over paint from one of my son's school projects so it was just an experiment. Thanks for your comments. Davy

I have to say nice work!! I myself have carved the cousin to rhodendren thats mt.laurel and it really takes detail well. And they make very good walking sticks. Good Luck!! on your next one.
