Default My son brought this from Mexico

All though this is a wood carving it doesnt look like one. It is first carved from Iron wood and then they sit for hours putting the beads on by hand. I absolutly love this art form in fact I had asked him to purchase me one when he was there. The Turtle is about a foot long by nine inches wide. It is beaded both top and bottom. I am heading to Mexico next year and will be spending a day if possible as a guest of the carvers hopefully learning how they do it. Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I do the carving.

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

Amazing work! I doubt I would have the patience to do anything close to that. It'd be fun just to sit and watch how they do it, though. Thanks for sharing.

Yes I agree the colours in the pictures are not half what they are in real life. Evidently most of the bead work is done by the women. What they do is thread the beads on a special thread. Then coat the carving with bee's wax. Then as they set the beads into the bee's wax they remove the thread. I cant wait to see how its done and will definatly try to persude them to let me try my hand. I will take my carving tools and some bass wood with me and carve them something while I am there. I cant wait till next year to try it.
