Default My Native American Flute

Hi All:

A post from Art Olver aka the Bark Guy and friend got me to thinking that I never posted the flute I made. I do have WIP's on the flute if anyone would be interested in seeing them.

I completed this flute about 2 years ago, but never shared it with you...not sure why just didn't. I did share the base of which I made and the flute came later.

It's cedar, made from a kit I purchased from a flute maker. The barrel was already drilled all I had to do was the finishing and make the little bird. I did some pyrography using a saddle pattern I admired. This flute is in the key of G and my favorite key.

I have two other flutes of which I did not make, they are in the keys of F and E. I did make the base from some mystery wood (possibly locust). I drilled three holes and mounted dowels so the flutes could rest upright.

As always I appreciate your comments

Regarding the stand for the flutes...here is an image of it. The base us a slice of mystery wood a friend gave to me...possibly locust. The kokopelli is basswood I did some pyrography design. I used wooden dowels for the mounts so the flutes would store upright.
The Dream Catcher was a gift from my hubbys cousin a very talented artist.

Very nice Kathy. I'll bet they sound as good as they look. I really like your kokopelli. Looks like a comfortable position on the finger holes.

Tom: Yes the key positions are just the right spacing as I play the full 6 holes. Some cover the cover the 6th hole and play it as a 5 hole. I found it better to learn the 6 hole and be done with it....Yes, it does sound really nice. Glad you like my kokopelli it was fun to carve had to be really careful carving the legs. I used a dowel and glue to secure it to the base.

Hi Joe:
Thank you, the pyrography was fun to do on the flute...did have to set my heat level as not to storch the cedar. I have a horse fetish that I have to finish in Alaskan White Cedar to replace the Bird. It was the horse fetish that I was carving with power when I broke my right index finger. One can never be to careful I guess....

Hi Kathy, Great looking Indian Folk Art. The only Indians we have around here is the Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins and I'm sure they don't play any flutes like you make. Ha,Ha. Merle

Great work, Kathy! BTW, you are aware that Kokopelli is a fertility god, aren't you?
