Turk, I'd recommend you start a new post with this latest carving as many may miss your photo thinking that the thread is just a continuation of a 2009 post. Hate to see anyone miss this carving. Great work. I've got away from doing NA Indians but hope to try another one soon. You have some good character lines in this fella..and I really like the approach to the headdress. Patrick |

Turk, very nice carving it take a while before you get a good wrap around face without flat spots. I've been trying for six years an just know I'm starting to get the face I want. Its like carving eyes I'm always afraid to go deep enought and thats what you have to do. nice job. Feb

It is basswood with a Watco dark wax...the picture kinda washes out the carving..it looks richer in color than the pic.

I think that you did a wonderful job. If you rounded the face over around the mouth and the the lower part of the face is the only thing that I would have done. But I`m no expert by any means. That was something that was told to me and it really improved my carving. I was told when in doubt round it over. They still look great as they are don`t get me wrong. Good job Vince |

Turk: I moved this to a new thread so more people might see it. I agree with Vince that the faces are becoming rounder and less flat than in your original posting here: New Carving. Nice carving! Claude |
