Default My grandfather's carvings

I realize since I joined this forum less than 2 months ago I have bombarded all of you with my endless questions and my ameteurish carvings so I thought I would give something back to you all and show you some of my grandfather's work. I never had a teacher or took any classes. It was his work that inspired me to start carving.

Some notes on the carvings:

a) The carving of a human head he did is of my cousin. My cousin bet my grandfather he couldn't carve his face and with only a photograph, he surely did. In the same photograph, the clam/fetus is a west coast Native style carving you can actually find on the Canadian $20 bill. I believe it is a symbolization of birth.

b)The totem pole stands in my parents' front yard. My grandfather has carved many different totems over the years. He even had one stolen out of his own backyard. He carved a new one and now it stands in his yard attached with a metal chain to a concrete pad. Stubborn guy, I tell ya!

I hope you enjoy these.

Curtis - thanks for sharing the photos your Grandfathers work with us. It's always a pleasure to see the various types of carving here. Ask all the questions you want - I don't believe payback is required.

Great carvings and I can see what inspired you. I particualy like the west coast native carving really well done. What a collection to be cherished and handed down. Really inspiring BTW is your grandfather still alive and is he still carving?

Thanks everyone! I guess I should mention my grandfather's alive and well at 87. When I'm not harassing you folks with my carving questions, he's the one I am bothering hehe. I got him to send me these photos because he keeps them up in his cottage in northern Ontario and lately it's hard to make time to get out there and see them all. He still carves.
