Hi Forrest, he is a nice looking little gnome. He has that whimical look that they all seem to have. Are you going to paint him or leave him natural? I think the gnome's look great painted add to their character.

I think I will paint him. Thanks for the comments. I have to look at it for a few days to see if he needs more carving.

Hi Forrest,

It looks kinda like a cell phone to me...

(okay - that's my bad joke for the day). I think as carvers we all struggle to one degree or another with getting our vision for a piece to come through our hands and into the piece. Not to worry - it's a process. You're doing quite well at it so far. Like Forrest of Tenn said - I'd like to see him when you get him painted (your gnome, not Forrest of Tenn!)

Okay - that's two!

Mark

Forrest of NC, I have several carvings around here similar to this one. I leave them alone...read some more, watch you tube videos and come back to them and use what I have learned to make changes. Quite interesting way to learn, I suppose, huh? It is fun though, isn't it?

Forrest:

It looks like a gnome to me, which in my book means it's a success. My first (and only, up to now) attempt at a gnome ended up in the fireplace. At this point in my carving, if it's recognizable as whatever I was trying to carve, then I call it good.

I think it looks good. I have done a few of these or at least similar. I agree about the paint it will really bring the life out. When I first started I hated the painting part, but now I enjoy the painting almost as much as the carving.

Hope to see the finished product.

Safe Carving and God Bless
