Default My first wild boar!

I have a commission to carve 5 pieces for a hutch. They will applique to the doors. 9" dia. x 1 1/2" thick.

The subjects are: a wild boar; buck; hawk; black bear and a fox. I can choose whatever representation of the subject I want to carve (not as easy as it sounds). This evolves pattern making and development.

At least I don't have to finish them. I am working on this with a friend who is a wood turner and cabinet maker. All I am doing is the carving portion. He furnishes me with a blank, a 9" x 1 1/2' piece of alder for each one.

This will probably be my last commission (unless someone has really big bucks).

John, that sure is a great piece...and a different subject! It's an interesting project, to say the least, and I, too, would absolutely LOVE to see the rest as you complete them. Wonderful job on the boar! Bonnie

Great carving John! Wild boars are something else...have run into a few over the years and to be honest, I always give them a wide berth... Your carving certainly captured the 'wildness and strength' of these brutes and I'm really looking forward to seeing your other three carvings for your client. Continued safe carving to you and be sure and share photos of the other carvings with us too.

The boar is really top notch John. You say your last commission, why is that? If it is not too personal to ask that is?
