Default My first walking stick

I started carving about a yr. ago and my main reason for doing so was that I wanted to carve a walking stick. I found out I had a lot to learn and after a yr. I have only touched the tip of the ice burge. I have so much to learn , I started with wood spirits on bark and had some success and a few whim houses and then on to bass wood and a few items there. So I decided to try a walking stick and after numerous failed attempts I finally started to get the hang of it. There is a ton of room for improvement and I am truly working at it. The wood is Caragana and where ever there was a convex bend on the wood I put a face , I have six faces on the stick. For some reason the picture doesn't do it justice. The finish I used was clear coat of shoe polish and brought it to a nice shine and then a brown liquid shoe polish . I put it on and wiped it off right away . I just wanted to fill the groves to give it depth. I am short two faces that I couldn't show. Thanks for looking Wayne.

Hi Wayne,

That's a nice looking stick with great faces on it. I can only imagine what you're going to do when you get a little more experience.

I want to thank you all for the very kind words. It is what I needed to hear, a little boost from my peers . I show my friends and they think it is very good and I appreciate them saying so, but they haven't seen any other walking sticks. I feel I am starting to catch on. Now my next step it to take a couple of carving classes. Again thank you.

wayne you really put some work into that beauty..and it shows. as far as being at the tip of an iceberg where learning is concerned, there are some amazing carvers on this site and i bet every one of them will tell you you never stop learning. that's what makes this hobby so enjoyable you will learn something new with every new project.
thanks for showing your work.
and check out some of the others in the stick and cane section for inspiration and ideas for your next stick. well done my friend
