Smile My first spoon!

Here's my first attempt at a spoon. It's a combination Maori triple twist friendship pendant and Welsh love spoon.

I freehand drew it on a piece of walnut, roughed it out on my scroll saw and carved it with two of my homemade razor knives and a Warren left-hand bent blade in a Warren handle. I sanded and then finished it with Johnson's Paste Wax.

This is the second thing I've carved out of walnut and even though it is much harder than basswood, I still enjoy doing it. The first thing I carved was a Maori friendship pendant that a friend talked me out of it before I could take a picture of it.

All comments are welcome.

Ed

Nice job Ed, and I 'm glad to hear that you got your razor knives finished. Aren't they sweet.

Raven,

Thanks for the comment. It turned out way better than I thought it would.

Tom,

Thank you. I have three knives made so far and three more in the wings. I really like them. Even as crude as mine look, they certainly are sweet.

Lovely spoon! Very nice work. I carved one very similar to that awhile back out of cedar. Much easier to carve than walnut but I'm with you on carving walnut. A great wood to carve!

Nice spoon, Ed. The twist is an interesting touch. Gotta love walnut, too. I need to find a source of some larger pieces. I really like carving the stuff.

Very nice carving on this unique spoon Ed. With this being your first I can't wait to see more of them!
Making your own knives feels good doesnt it knowing you created not only the carving but it was carved with the knive you made also. A double delight!

Keep up the excellent work Ed and should I miss any of your carving here on board, please send me a note on it,my mind gets lost at times! LOL
