On another thread Cliff Tucker wanted to take a look at my first carving so I thought I'd post it here so others, should they want, could post theirs. And, believe it or not, except for the hat he's out of one piece of wood!...Here he is:

It's no surprise you kept carving after showing that much promise as a beginner! Glad you did. Mike

Very Nice Lynn! That doesn't look like a first carving as much as it looks like something from a seasoned carver! My first carving is my Avatar pic above. Joe

Lynn, I'm amazed at your first carving, many of us will carve for a lot of years and NEVER carve as well as you did the first time around. It's no small wonder how you are able to get such fantastic carvings now days. Thank you so very much for posting, it was indeed a pleasure to see your first. Cliff |

I would agree that Lynn's first way back when was as good as some of us will ever be. But it is easy to see that Lynn developed a style of his own for sure and it's pretty easy to recognize a Lynn carving. I think that is what takes a good carver into the realm of being a great carver........ when your carvings stand out as your own and not your version of someone else's carvings. There are quite a few here that fall into that category. I hope someday I can do that as well... but not sure I have enough time ... ha ha. Lynn, I don't mean to make you feel old but I am 50 years old this year and when you did that carving I was still in high school Corey
