Default My first Angel

Hello Friends
I just finished my first Angel, carved out of Cottonwood, painted on acrylics aka 'plastic' with a very glossy finish.
Please check it out. I posted it on Picture trail under religious.
Have a good night
D! ???

D, I find your carvings AND your method of painting utterly charming. I think their appeal comes from what you described as being 'rustic'.
We all want to stretch and grow, try new things, but I think it would be a shame for you to lose any of your simplicity and charm.
I, too, use the opaque 'plastic' method of painting with acrylics......probably because I was a flat painter for umpteen years before I discovered carving and I always used an opaque style, never mastering washes or watercolors. My carvings aren't the best, or even close, but I'm a happy carver and that's what counts.
Best wishes - keep carving.

Doel, your Angel is very nice!! I agree with Nancy, you definitely have a 'style' going that is perfect for what you are doing. Experiment around with different techniques but don't lose sight of what you have going for you right now.
I tried doing washes of color because I love the look on other carvings...especially Teri's, but it just didn't look right on my work. Guess like Nancy, (who by the way is a fantastic carver!!) 'plastic' works well for me also! Callynne

Doel, if I were you, I would not even try to change my style of carving and finishing. Those are unique pieces of art. Over time, your style will evolve but try to retain your own touch as it does!

Hi D -

I have to agree with the others - you have a very unique style of your own, and rather than trying to do something more like others, follow your own style to see where it takes you!! I love the angel...and the paintjob on the angel is great!!!

Doel,

You did a beautiful job on that angel. I also like the glossy finish. Very nice.

Great work D! I really like your angel and my wife (a collector) says she wants one like it.

Default New Carving

Hey Guys I posted a new carving on picture trail.
By the way I love the ghost of X-mas.
It reminds me of New Orleands..

Hi SantosDepaulo...I like your Angel! Reminds me of New Mexico!...Nancy and Callynne...if you have any of those 'not the best' and 'plastic' carvings..just send them to me, naturally we wouldn't want them to get out in the public.........
