Default My Diagnosis

So figured I would just start a new thread instead of bringing up the old one. For those of you who read my post on my wrist, I went to the Doc and have Tendonitis. So I now sport a brace that holds my thumb upright. And I am out of carving for 2 weeks to 2 months!! I am very depressed about this as I am sure you all can imagine. The doc called it De Quervain's tendinitis she said it could be due to me carving so much. I was carving at least 2hours a night, sometimes up to 6hrs.
So for all you new carvers who might read this. GO EASY! or you could find yourself in a brace for 2 months. So for now i get to just look and read here on the forums at all the wonderful pics and advice you all give. Guess I can still carve in my mind! I have had tendonitis of the brain goin on 21 years or so my wife likes to tell me

Sorry to hear that Sean,
The same thing happened to me last year at this time. They gace me a brace and in about 3 weeks I went back and the doctor told me I could carve but for shorter periods of time for the next few weeks. Now I always wear a brace when I carve.

Thank you Terry, Alex It has been a few weeks and so far it seems a little better, but not enough to carve yet. I wondered if I might have to wear some sort of brace when it heals. As i do not want to lose being able to carve again. This is terrible.

I can take a long time to stop bothering you, they say in the Bible patience will be rewarded..so go Biblical on it. All need to take heed and not overdo in ANY physical task, you can injure yourself by overdoing anything (even thinking at times). Now is a good time to read a lot of books and watch a lot of videos..you will be back carving soon.

Sean very sorry to hear about your tendonitis!!! Take care of it don't make it worse.
I am having some of the same withdrawl problems--I have a dislocated wrist and am also wearing a brace. Dr. said I could carve a little if I wore the brace. Well it is not real easy to do but I try a little. Some how in the middle of this I managed to tear my hamstring too so anything fun is off limits. Gettin' old ain't for the weak.
So hang in there it will pass--I have 6 weeks of the brace then possibly a cortosone injection or surgery if it is not better.
Go to the carving club meetings and just enjoy being around carvers. I drive 125 miles to the closest club and it always gives me a boost to go. Next week I am the evenings entertainment with a short how to on how I carve hair and beards.
I just figure this will pass and I will make up for lost time.
Best of Luck
Have A Great Day
Terry

Thanks Slow, Dave and Terry. Yeah Terry, doc said the same thing to me about the shots. I don't really want to go down that line. Getting a shot of cortisone for some reason does not sound like something I want to put into my body. I reckon we will see how it goes.
