Default Must See Arrow thru Light Bulb

This is a unique piece done by Kaz Kazushima, a member of the San Fernando Valley chapter of the California Carvers' Group.

It is a one piece, carved wooden arrow with a 1/2" diameter shaft going through a glass bottle and then through a light bulb mounted on a wooden base. He went through four dozen light bulbs before he was able to successfuly insert the arrow through both.

I took this picture at the Santa Anita carving show in 2004.

I did not get his permission to post this. He also does snake sticks in the David Stehly style.

G'day Ron,
Thanks for showing that snap, fantastic piece! Any ideas as to how it's done? The arrow seems to be all one oiece, are the holes slotted to take the arrowhead, or does he cut and join the shaft in the centre? Nevertheless, a clever bit of work.
John

Hi John,

The arrow is one piece of wood, not glued together. The guy told me he designed and made his own press that exerted tremendous pressure. He squeezed the arrow head so it was as small as the shaft and then inserted it through the holes in the bottle and bulb. The arrow head was then allowed to expand on its own to its original size.
